Bel Powley: Informer star says show portrays how real London breathes and exists

Bel Powley said she couldn’t wait to shoot BBC hit Informer in the capital to show off the “real” London — but also because it allowed her to sleep in her own bed for once.

The actress, 26, played Dc Holly Morten in the crime drama following Raza Shar, played by Nabhaan Rizwan, as an undercover informant for counter-terrorism police. The series reached its gripping climax last week.

She told ES Magazine that the show appealed to her as it “feels like it’s portraying real London, like it shows how this city really breathes and exists”.

Another upside was being able to go home to Kensal Rise after filming wrapped. Powley, who is dating fellow actor Douglas Booth, said: “I got to go home to my own bed and my boyfriend and my friends.”

She kicked off her acting career on CBBC show MI High, aged 14, then took on parts on stage and in ITV’s The Bill and Benidorm. She landed her breakthrough role as Minnie in the 2015 coming-of-age drama The Diary Of A Teenage Girl.

In her latest film, she plays addict Dawn Wershe alongside Matthew McConaughey in White Boy Rick. Of taking on the character, Powley said: “Playing a drug addict is a tough one. You’re limited to your research, unless you choose to go and take loads of drugs, which I didn’t think was the most sensible choice.

“There are actually a lot of videos on YouTube of people smoking crack.”
