Beith Juniors grab Mighty win over Auchinleck Talbot in crucial West of Scotland Premier title clash

Beith Juniors picked up a Mighty win in the West of Scotland Premier Division title race.

The Bellsdale Park side travelled to Auchinleck Talbot last night (Monday) and disposed of the Beechwood Park side with a fine 2-1 victory.

The Mighty haven't lost a league game since November, picking up an incredible 46 points from an available 48 – 15 wins out of 16.

Last night's win sees them leap seven points clear of closest challengers Darvel and 23 clear of Talbot, although Tommy Sloan's men have six games in hand.

Beith still have an away clash against Vale to come as well as a game at Bellsdale against Auchinleck.

Connor McGlinchey fired Chris Strain's side ahead after just 11 minutes from the penalty spot following a foul on Andy Monk.

And eight minutes later Monk grabbed a goal of his own as he rounded Andy Leishman to finish after a stunning spin from Carlo Monti before a delightful ball into the area.

Talbot pressured Beith for an equaliser and they came close on the hour mark when Michael Wardrope smashed a free kick towards goal, but Owen Stott saved well.

Gareth Armstrong did give Auchinleck hope in the 69th minute as he fired home a stunning long range effort, and they looked to press for an equaliser.

Stott pulled off a stunning save in the dying minutes, but the flag had been raised for offside anyway.
