Beith Juniors boss Bryan Young urges 'relentless' side to harness ruthless mentality

Bryan Young has urged Beith to build on a ruthless start to pre-season.

The Mighty boss branded his side 'relentless' after they thrashed Lugar Boswell 8-0 at Bellsdale Park yesterday.

Three first-half goals were followed by five after the break as the visitors were shown no mercy.

Now Young wants his players to harness that strong mindset going forward – and take it into their West of Scotland League campaign.

Young told Ayrshire Live: "The relentlessness was probably the most pleasing thing about the game.

"It's encouraging because we are going to have challenging games this year.

"If we can keep that mentality when it's maybe not going so well for us and we've still got that same consistency, that will be brilliant for me."

Despite being full of praise for his side's overall performance, Young felt they didn't hit their stride until Conner McGlinchey's penalty broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark.

He said: "As much as the work rate and quality was there, I felt for the first 20 minutes we weren't clinical enough. I'm greedy that way!

"The belief came when we scored the penalty. It looked like it gave us confidence but I would like to see that confidence before that even happens."

Young was particularly delighted to see McGlinchey and fellow defender Nicky Docherty weigh in with two goals each, the latter heading home twice from corner kicks.

"It was tremendous," said Young.

"That's the best we've been at set plays since I've been here.

"We were attacking the ball and being aggressive in the right areas.

"The deliveries we put in were consistently good, giving boys a chance to put the ball in the back of the net."

Beith have a further two pre-season friendlies confirmed.

They will travel to Glasgow on Wednesday, June 23 to take on Maryhill before hosting East Kilbride on Saturday, June 26.
