This week I am back in my native Scotland attending a partner event, but being out of the office doesn't mean that I am out of touch.
From right here in Edinburgh I have been able to check my email, use internal network resources and access my shared drive on the server as if I was sat in the office. Not only can I do this with ease, but most importantly I can do this securely.
This kind of remote access is made possible by creating a secure tunnel through the internet and any information that is transmitted through this tunnel is safe and protected.
Black Tomato have been busy implementing this type of remote access known as a virtual private network (VPN) and this will not only allow Tom to stay in touch when he is in an exotic location (or Scotland for me!) but on a domestic level, it will allow staff to work from home.
By enabling secure access to the network remotely, there is no need for memory sticks to be carried around containing confidential data or the need to carry vast amounts of data that is normally held on a server as it will be accessible at any time in a safe and controlled manner.
Working from home or remotely can now be done as business needs demand, without being tied to one location. If there is anything that Black Tomato knows and understands, it's that you don't have to be restrained by location and with this new technology they will find they'll have even more freedom.
