What’s new: Starting Saturday, the Chinese capital of Beijing will lower its public health emergency response from two to three, the city government announced Friday.
The move comes just over a month after Beijing lowered its response level at the end of April from one, the highest level, to two.
The government also said people arriving to Beijing from Hubei province, the epicenter of China’s outbreak, will no longer be subject to a 14-day quarantine upon arrival.
Background: The moves are a further relaxation of strict policies put in place to control the Covid-19 outbreak earlier this year, as the virus comes further under control.
With rare exeptions, China has consistently reported less than 10 new active Covid-19 cases nationwide each day in recent weeks.
China’s emergency response system is divided into four levels, with one the highest and four the lowest.
