Beibhinn Parsons admits Ireland must step up from waltz against Wales to meet France head on

Wing sensation Beibhinn Parsons insists France won't catch Ireland cold at Energia Park on Saturday.

Ireland breezed past Wales in Cardiff last Saturday, sweeping to a 45-0 Six Nations victory in their first outing in six months.

Parsons, 19, enhanced her own reputation with a further brace of tries but recognises the step up that's required now against the semi-professional Les Bleus, who blew the Welsh away 53-0 last week.

"We’re not getting ahead of ourselves," stated Parsons. "We’re happy with the win but we know that France are a whole different beast and they’ll bring new challenges to us.

"We’re not naive in that sense. We want to be put to the test, we want to know how good we actually are but we won’t know that until we come up against good, strong opposition.

"There are definitely things that we want to work on and I think we had really good intensity and tempo in the first half because we're fit, then we dropped our standards and lowered them to Wales in the second half.

"So we're disappointed with that and we're disappointed in ourselves for those moments, but there's a lot of positives and of course there's definitely negatives and obviously things we need to change for France.

"But we have our own philosophy and our own systems. We have full belief and buy in that they will work if we execute them. You can't control what other teams do but we can control ourselves. That is one thing we have always stuck to.

"We will need to tighten up. There are a few loose ends from that Wales match and we switched off at times.

"Teams like France and England are clinical and they will punish us for those moments. We have lots to rectify before the weekend but we will stick to our guns and stick to what we know."

Parsons admits it would have been a disappointment if the game had been cancelled due to quarantine issues in Dublin, but the Irish Government appears to have found a solution to the French making the trip.

"Of course we want matches, we haven't played in six months and we want to play, we've done all the training, our work is in the bag," she said.

"We want to get out onto the pitch, so of course we'd be disappointed. But it's the nature of life at the moment and we have to take that on the chin."
