Behind the scenes of 'the 15-minute nose job' that costs just £350

Most people associate nose jobs with operations, bandages and massive cost - with some operations costing up to £7,000.

But there is a less evasive and less expensive option that is becoming increasingly common and can be done in less than 15 mintues.

Doctor Steven Land, who runs Novellus Aesthetics in Jesmond, took ChronicleLive behind the scenes to see a non-surgical nose job being done.

In the chair was Geeta Ral, 37, who was unhappy with her nose after bumping into a door.

After putting on anesthetic cream to numb the nose, Dr Land used precise injections of dermal filler to smooth and sculpt the nose.

He said: "What we are hoping to do is lift the tip of the nose a little bit, straighten the nose out, there is a slight curve to the nose, from an injury a few years ago, with a little bit of filler above the bump, a little bit of filler in the tip to lift it and a little bit of filler to straighten the contour out.

"The filler is a nice thick filler, which we need to use for nose jobs because we are trying to recreate bone and cartilage, so we want something that is nice and thick and is going to look and act like cartilage.

"The thicker filler tends to last longer, so the results should last for a year to 18 months."

After inserting the needle, Dr Land makes sure it is in the right place and then inserts the filler, smoothing it out and checking the lines.

He says: "The next one is right into the tip. You can see the tip lifting.

"It has straightened loads already with two injections.

"This injection under the nose just helps to rotate the nose upwards and backwards which shortens the nose.

"It opens out the angle and gives a bit of a lift to the nose."

Dr Land, who also works as a doctor at A&E in Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, said angles are important in the world of aesthetics.

He said: "If you are into the world of aesthetics there's a million and one angles and lines we look at to get the 'perfect face' and one of the things we look to do is open that angle out.

"In a male patient that should be 90 degrees in a female patient should be 100/105 degrees, then it is a case of a little bit of moulding."

The procedure is one of Dr Land's favourites to do.

He said: "It is relatively quick and straight froward and the results are always fantastic.

"I think everyone has been really happy with the results which is why it is nice to do.

"People call it the 15-minute nose job. It is a short procedure. It is a nice procedure. You are in and out. There is a little bit of redness but little bruising."

Looking in the mirror after the procedure, Geeta said: "I'm really happy. It's amazing that those three injections make that difference."

Dr Land has had clients come through his doors who have been seeking help to fix botched work and has offered advice for anyone thinking of having work done.

For anyone thinking of having work done, he said: "It is important to make sure you see the right people - doctors and nurses and do the research, make sure you pick someone who is sensible and reliable, someone who is going to get the results, and someone is going to be safe, more importantly, and who is going to know how to treat complications should they arise.

"You can be the safest practitioner in the world, but you will get a complication eventually - that is the nature of what we do, so part of it is choosing someone who knows what they are doing and deal with that should it arise.

"If you stick with a doctor or nurse you are going to be safer because we have access to the emergency drugs you need."
