Behind the scenes of Chelsea's Moises Caicedo bid, Paulo Dybala deal, Giorgi Mamardashvili truth

CFCBecker said: "Why is there a press conference today? Seems a bit random."

Bobby replied: "I think it's just more of an introductory press conference. If you remember, we had one for Graham Potter when he was appointed but because that was in the season, it didn't feel as random. It's just for Chelsea and Pochettino to try and get positive messages out to the supporters."

mouhchrif98 said: "After the exit of so many midfielders, why is Chelsea delaying their compensation, especially the compensation of Mount and Havertz?"

Bobby replied: "Chelsea are actively working on a deal to sign Moises Caicedo. I understand they are preparing an offer to Brighton for the midfielder.

"However, things are complicated, with Brighton wanting a lot of money for Caicedo. Chelsea, though, are trying to find a deal that suits them in terms of add-ons/bonuses/multiple instalments etc. Chelsea don't want just any midfielder – they want Caicedo."

jrl96 said: "Hi mate, do you think Caicedo will end up in London blue by the time we fly to the USA?"

Bobby replied: "If you're putting me on the spot, I'm going to say no. I do think Chelsea will eventually sign Caicedo but I have the feeling it may be a situation that rolls on throughout the majority of the summer transfer window, unfortunately."

boluwatlife said: "Will Chelsea sign a goalkeeper?"

Bobby replied: "They certainly want to! Chelsea are big admirers of Mike Maignan but accept a deal may be tough to strike because of how much AC Milan want for him. Also, Maignan is one of the best goalkeepers in the world at the moment and supposedly wants to be playing Champions League football next season – which is understandable.

"Chelsea also really like Andre Onana and have done for some time now but Manchester United look like the favourites to sign him right now. I was told yesterday that Chelsea have watched Valencia goalkeeper Giorgio Mamardashvili multiple times and are big fans of his. It's definitely one to keep an eye on. But yes, I do believe the club will eventually sign a new goalkeeper."

takz said: "Is there any concrete news on Chelsea and Nintendo being our potential sponsor?"

Bobby replied: "Hi Takz. I'll be honest: I don't know too much on that. But if you're referring to the teaser video the club released yesterday – my guess would be that is referring to the 90s and perhaps one of their new kits is going to be 90s-themed."

seongmin asked: "Hi Bobby, I'm so bored because the news of Chelsea's transfer window recruitment is getting hot these days... First of all, I'm sorry that I have so many questions..

"1. I heard Caicedo recently had a price of £100m and they say they sell it for £85m if it's a payment structure in Brighton's favour and £100m if it's a payment structure in Chelsea's favour, I wonder what the chances of Caicedo coming to Chelsea are now!

"2. Chelsea's striker position is also important besides defensive midfielder, of course Caicedo will be active in recruiting strikers only after the deal is over, but can we know which player Chelsea is aiming for at the moment and who is the most likely striker to come? Personally, I want Osimhen to come, is there any possibility?

"3. I recently got a Dybala link and I heard it's not a priority, but is there a high probability of coming to Chelsea? Veiga also seems to be less likely as PSG go after it, which midfielder is on Chelsea's list?

"4. If I recruit Caicedo, I'm short of defensive midfielders, do you know anything about another defensive midfielder target list I'll be aiming for after Caicedo?? I'm asking because I don't think it's been released to the press.

"5. There are a lot of talks about recruiting goalkeepers, but I don't think there's anything decided in the article... Mamardashvili, Trubin, Diogo Costa, etc. are all talked about and do you know which players are likely to be recruited??"

Bobby replied: "1. I saw a few journalists report the £100m stuff. I believe that would have come from Brighton. From what I've been told Chelsea think Brighton would eventually accept £80m for Caicedo. Chelsea are preparing an offer for him but they are trying to structure it appropriately for them.

"2. Osimhen is someone of interest but unfortunately he is wanted by every top club around Europe. Also the fact Chelsea don't have any sort of European football to offer him is likely to affect any deal. Right now, it's quite quiet on the striker-front but the club have brought in Nicolas Jackson, a traditional No.9, and Christopher Nkunku, who has played his best football down the middle. It definitely wouldn't surprise me, though, if the club did go for another striker in the next couple of months.

"3. I personally haven't heard anything on Dybala this summer. Last summer, I was told Chelsea very much like him so the links resurfacing are not too much of a shock. It's one to keep an eye on. Gabri Veiga is someone I was told not that long ago is of interest but not a priority. However, he could well be now given Mason Mount has left the club.

"4. I reported last month that Chelsea wanted Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. Now, Lavia looks more likely to move to Arsenal or Liverpool. But the fact I was told they wanted both midfielders suggests to me it won't just be the one central midfielder for Chelsea this summer.

"5. Mamardashvili was mentioned to me yesterday as someone that Chelsea very much like. Nothing advanced yet, though. I feel like once Chelsea make a breakthrough with Caicedo, then we could see their other deals speed up."

seongmin said: "Thank you so much for answering the long question Bobby! I'm gonna ask you a little more detail."

"1. I was asking because reporters like Nizaar Kinsella and Jacob Steinberg said Brighton was asking for 100m for Caicedo. Of course, Felix said that Brighton would sell it for 85m if it was a favorable payment structure and 100m if it was a favorable payment structure for Chelsea. That's why I asked because I don't think this is from Brighton. Is it your idea that it could be traded at 80m that you mentioned? Or did you hear it from sources?

"2. Of course I agree that it's not surprising if Chelsea can't get a new striker, but the media says they do and I'm also curious about the stories of Vlahovic or Kolo Muani. Listening to you, it seems difficult to recruit Osimen, have you heard anything about Vlahovic or Kolo Muani recently?

"3. Veiga is also rumored to be taking PSG for a better wage than Chelsea, can Chelsea bring Veiga? Or what other players are on Chelsea's target list if they fail to sign Veiga?

"4. I think Lavia will definitely move to a different team than Chelsea. Can I know what other players are as defensive midfielder targets?

"5. Mamardashvili is now Chelsea's favorite target. I like him because he is a good player, but there are rumors that Bayern is aiming for him, but can Chelsea compete with Munich to recruit Mamardashvili? I was wondering if there were any stories about Trubin or Diogo Costa.

"6. I didn't ask you this last time, but Chelsea's main sponsor isn't being released right now, do you know where the companies are negotiating about it??"

Bobby said: "1. I was told my multiple sources that Brighton would accept around £80m for Caicedo, that was the general feeling anyway. It's one of those where we will have to wait and see but I do trust the people that have told me.

"2. Dusan Vlahovic is on the list of strikers Chelsea are interested in. But unfortunately that's all it is at this stage: interest. I haven't heard anything about Kolo Muani, personally, but that's not to say it's not true!

"3. Chelsea are interested in Veiga, yes. Lavia remains on the list, but I am well aware the two players are nothing alike in terms of profile etc. Mac Allister was on the list but he has since joined Liverpool. Apart from that, I haven't had too many other names mentioned to me.

"4. See above.

"5. At this stage, Chelsea just have an interest in Mamardashvili. There have been no talks with Valencia or the player's entourage just yet. Bayern are said to be in for him, yes, so if that is the case then the Germans are way ahead of Chelsea in the race to sign him.

"6. Sorry, mate, I do not know about any sponsorship details right now."

herdyh said: "Hi Bobby, what is the plan for Lewis Hall this season, as far as you know? Loan, or part of the first team squad? Would be great if you or your colleagues could ask Poch about the plan for him and other young players later today at the press conference?"

Bobby said: "I think Chelsea would be open to loaning Hall out next season as he definitely needs regular first-team football to continue his development. Equally, I think the club would be more than happy to keep him around and play him in the odd game. But with Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella at left-back, it might be difficult for Hall to get too many games. By all accounts it looks like Cucurella will be given a second chance, so to speak, at Chelsea next season.

"But if Chelsea did loan Hall out, it could benefit both the club and the player. I would like to see him play in the centre of midfield so that might be something Chelsea discuss with any clubs interested in taking him on loan. Hall will talk with Pochettino over the next few weeks about his plans for him."

wesleyfo said: "Caicedo news?"

Bobby said: "Chelsea and Brighton still in talks. I'm told Chelsea are 'prepping a bid' for Caicedo. There's a feeling that Brighton will eventually accept £80m for the midfielder. Personal terms verbally agreed, though nothing is signed yet."
