Behind the scenes look at what Everton have been doing so far on pre-season training return

Everton players made an early return to pre-season training because of their friendly against Kariobangi Sharks in Nairobi on Sunday but just what have the Blues been up to so far at Finch Farm?

The Blues are still without a number of players who were on international duty this summer including Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane (England); Seamus Coleman (Republic of Ireland); Lucas Digne (France); Cuco Martina (Curacao); Yerry Mina (Colombia); Idrissa Gueye (Senegal); Gylfi Sigurdsson (Iceland); Yannick Bolasie (DR Congo); Richarlison (Brazil); Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Kieran Dowell (England Under-21s) plus Cenk Tosun (Turkey) who is injured anyway.

Those who are present will be out on the grass for the first time today after yesterday's session was mainly for basic physical testing to give a baseline as the season progresses.

Players were tested for strength measures in the gym, such as isometric muscle tests, Nordic (strength of the hamstrings), and groin bar.

The players also underwent more dynamic tests, including the jump test to measure power and symmetry, plus basic body fat measures.

There were also tests for physical measurements like range of motion of joints and muscle bulk - this gives an idea of progress over the course of the season and if injury occurs.

Then basic things like eye tests, and the consultant cardiologist was present to do electrocardiogram and echocardiogram tests.
