Behind the scenes at West Ham as Jarrod Bowen impresses Declan Rice ahead of Europa League tie

West Ham are preparing for the visit of Rapid Vienna in the Europa League on Thursday evening and spirits were high at the Rush Green training ground on Wednesday morning.

Mark Noble was out early on what felt like the first proper autumn day of the year - the sun was shining but there was a chill in the air as he stood talking with assistant coach Billy McKinlay and Joe Cole.

Former Hammer Cole was at the training ground in his role with the media and was chatting to a number of the squad and coaching staff as the players prepared for training.

The atmosphere was very relaxed with the players trotting out in small groups, laughing and joking around until setting off on a group run.

Noble even had time to practice his golf swing while Michail Antonio and Kevin Nolan appeared to be finessing a celebration for the striker's next goal.

Declan Rice was one of the first out and took great pleasure in booting the ball as high as he could in the air to test the first touch of a number of his colleagues.

Jarrod Bowen killing the ball dead with the outside of his boot brought a few 'oohs' from a number of his teammates, as did a back flick which was greeted with an "ohhh Jaz!" from Rice.

Injured defender Ryan Fredericks was back in training, although the utility man was put through his paces separately from the main group. He completed a number of running drills, including some dynamic movements, but was only wearing trainers rather than football boots and was not included in any ball work with his teammates.

With the arrival of Alphonse Areola and Kurt Zouma during the summer transfer window, there is now a large French-speaking contingent at the club. The two new signings, along with Said Benrahma, Issa Diop and Arthur Masuaku were enjoying each other's company as the squad headed off for a group run.

Zouma and Benrahma in particular seem to have struck up a quick friendship, making each other giggle like school kids at times.

David Moyes was so inconspicuous it would have been easy to miss him but the manager quietly went about his business and is clearly a hands-on boss. Before any players had even run out or other coaches arrived, Moyes was on his own laying out cones and dummies to be used later in the training session.

The boss could easily have asked another member of staff to have done this but was happy to do so himself and was very particular with where everything went.

The warm-up was led by a member of the Hammers coaching team before the boss took over once the players were ready to up the intensity.

Despite his recent injury issues and absence from the matchday squad against Leeds United, Arthur Masuaku was involved in the training session and is in contention for a start against Rapid Vienna.

The Hammers opponents tomorrow flew into London on Wednesday and will complete their preparations with a final training session inside the London Stadium on the eve of the match.
