Behind-closed-doors All-Ireland final takes ticket pressure off players

In normal circumstances, Pauric Mahony would be feeling the stress now of trying to dig out tickets during All-Ireland final week.

But these being abnormal times, the injured Waterford star says that the Deise hurlers will feel the benefit of not having that extra pressure on their minds.

"The ticket side of things will help anyway, an absolute nightmare," Mahony said.

"I was only thinking to myself that if we got there this year and with (his brother) Philip gone off the panel, the allocation to our family was going to be halved!".

Mahony admits there was an "eerie feeling" in Croke Park for the dramatic All-Ireland semi-final win over Kilkenny.

"It brings it back to game on game and treating it right. Whether it’s a final, semi-final, the first round of the league or a challenge match you have to go out with the same attitude and bring your game every time you go there.

"That’s how we have tried to approach it and it has worked to date."

In that regard he has high praise for what management Liam Cahill and Mikey Bevans have brought from Tipperary in their first year in charge.

"There's an energy there that they're after bringing, that they bring to every training, and it seeps right down through the panel," said Mahony.

"And it's just a highly enjoyable set-up to be involved in, whether we train for 30 minutes, an hour, an hour and a half, they'll demand high standards, that we go hard and we push each other to the limits.

"It's reflecting on the pitch then, how we're training.

"They've struck a balance between bringing a level of intensity, work-rate and aggression with giving lads that little bit of freedom to go out and express themselves".
