Beetles tame Tigers to go second in T1

Chiang Rai United moved to joint-second place in Thai League 1 after securing a 1-0 win at Chiangmai FC last night.

After a lacklustre first half, Chiang Rai were clearly the better side in the second in the northern derby.

The Beetles went ahead after 52 minutes through midfielder Siwakorn Tiatrakul as the Lanna Tigers failed to register a single shot on goal during the entire game.

With the win, Chiang Rai are joint second with defending champions Buriram United and PT Prachuap.

The duo have 12 points, two behind leaders Port.

Yesterday's game was originally scheduled for March 30 but was postponed due to the air pollution in the northern provinces.

The league is now taking a break for Songkran festival and will resume on April 19 when Buriram host Trat.

A win would see Buriram regain the lead from surprise package Port.

Money can't buy Siwakorn

Port's Siwakorn Chakkuprasart has been impressive this season and coach Jadet Meelarp said the club would not sell the in-form midfielder at any price.

He said he believed club chairperson Nualphan Lamsam would reject offers to buy the star.

"We may let him leave for only Manchester United or Barcelona," the coach said jokingly.

Teerasil set for 100th cap

Teerasil Dangda is set to receive his 100th cap at the June 5-8 King's Cup tournament in Buri Ram.

Thailand interim coach Sirisak Yodyardthai and his assistant Choketawee Promrut agreed that if the Muang Thong United striker is fit he will be assigned to captain the national side during the four-team tournament.

The 30-year-old star was injured and did not play for the War Elephants at last month's China Cup.
