Beetlejuice 2: Winona Ryder confirms she’s working with Tim Burton on a sequel

Well, that’s director Tim Burton and actors Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder now all on board for a Beetlejuice sequel.

Seth Meyers put it to Ryder directly during his chat show this week, asking: “There’s been talk about a Beetlejuice sequel, can you confirm or deny this?”

She replied: “Um, i think i can confirm it, because Tim Burton… like. it was very hush hush, top secret and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said ‘Oh yeah we’re doing it and Winona’s going to be in it’ and i was like [does the human equivalent of this emoji :O ]."

The press tour moment she was referring to was when MTV asked Burton if Ryder would be returning for the sequel to the 1988 comedy fantasy, to which he said emphatically: “Oh yeah, yeah yeah yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah. Yeah yeah, oh yeah.”

Lead actor Michael Keaton has also previously said that he’s game to return.

“I’ve e-mailed Tim a couple of times, talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff,” he said.

“I always said that’s the one thing I’d like to do again, if I ever did anything again. But it kind of required Tim to be involved some way or another.”

It’s been 27 years since the first Beetlejuice but it remains a cult classic, with Ryder telling Meyers that even children born long after the film came out ask her about it.
