Finnish violinist Pekka Kuusisto has taken the reins of ACO Collective, formerly known as ACO2. Kuusisto was the first Finn to win his country’s prestigious Sibelius prize for young violinists, and in 2004, captivated audiences with Bartok’s Violin Concerto no. 1 with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at London’s Barbican.
But Kuusisto’s musical credits don’t end there. He’s played jazz for as long as he’s played violin; he’s curated a chamber music festival in Lake Tuusula; and dabbled in electronic, folk and rock music.
In his first ACO Collective season, he will lead the musicians in a special program that interweaves contemporary works by living composers with pieces by Tippett, Sibelius and Beethoven.
