Beeston grandma who lost 9 stone called an 'inspiration' as she 'gets her life back'

A Beeston grandma who has lost nine stone said she has "got her life back". Laura Glazier weighed nearly 23 stone when she went along to Slimming World with her daughter for "moral support".

The 49 year old lost two and a half stone whilst following meal plans with her daughter at home, then decided to join a group of her own. Laura has been attending Beeston Slimming World at the Resource Centre for three years where she lost a further six stone.

She said: "It makes me feel brilliant, it has made me a bit more confident. It has made me feel better in myself and my self esteem. I am not hiding away so much.

"I would hide away and not do much, whereas now, I love that I can go into normal clothes shops and buy clothes and not have to go to those for large sizes. It just makes you feel very very good about yourself."

Laura, who has suffered multiple health issues, still goes to the group run by Margaret Burton every Thursday. Consultant Margaret said: "She was in a wheelchair when she first came to me, then she went from that to crutches. She was so determined she was going to get the weight off, now she just walks around the room which is brilliant.

"She is an inspiration to the group. It has been amazing, I can't visualise the Laura that first came in, in the wheelchair. I didn't think she would even fit on the scales. She was still determined then, it took two of us either side of her to stand her up and make her safe on the scales.

"Now, to see the results she has done. She is just amazing. The group are in awe of her." Laura has been the 'greatest loser' in Margaret's group as well as being nominated for woman of the year.

Margaret added: "I think sometimes it's not about the big numbers they lose but it is what they have overcome to lose the weight, and to get their life back. That's what Laura is doing, she is getting her life back now."

To anyone wanting to lose weight but unsure about going to a group like Slimming World, Laura said: "Go. Do not be ashamed, as soon as you walk through those doors everybody started off where you started, everyone goes for the same reason; to lose weight.

"Do not be afraid or ashamed. Get your confidence up and do it. You will benefit for it in the end and you will feel great." Regarding what her family think of her weight loss, Laura added: "They are really proud of me. Very proud and happy. I know that because I feel better, they feel better that I have not got that weight on me. I am able to do more with them now."
