A pop-up cinema screening some of the biggest films of the last century is returning to Nottinghamshire in the autumn.
It will be the third time the former Bartons bus depot in High Road, Chilwell will be transformed into a 100--seater cinema, screening classics such as The Italian Job, Grease, Goldfinger and Indiana Jones.
The Classic Cinema in The Garage follows sell-out showings of Saturday Night and Sunday Morning in April and Nottingham Forest documentary I Believe in Miracles in May.
“We really enjoyed putting on the two film screenings a few months ago and wanted to have a crack at doing a few more,” organiser James Barton explained.
“During Saturday Night and Sunday Morning it felt like a big classic cinema club. We went on a mission after that to try build Beeston and Chilwell a cinema.”
The Classic Cinema has been fitted with retro 1930s seats that were saved from The Byron in Hucknall, one of Nottinghamshire’s most iconic cinemas.
“As bastions of local heritage, we couldn’t allow the seats to end up in landfill," said James. "We really wanted to save them and put them back into use only a few miles down the road. They’re actually surprisingly comfy.”
Two-hundred of the vintage seats were also bought by Pinewood Studios in London.
Classic Cinema is set to kick off on September 14 with The Italian Job, the same day as a Heritage Open Day at the old Barton Bus Headquarters.
Dates and times of further screenings have yet to be revealed.
