Beer-themed Manchester hotel nominated for dog-friendly business award

Being ‘in the doghouse’ doesn’t always have to be a bad thing – especially if you’re a pet owner looking for a dog-friendly hotel in Manchester.

DogHouse Manchester, on Fountain Street, is a new hospitality venture from independent craft brewer BrewDog, which comprises a hotel, restaurant, taproom and secret rooftop featuring a ‘taco hut’.

As well as being carbon-negative and full of unusual features like a ‘beer shower fridge’, ‘in room craft beer’ and a vinyl record collection, the newly launched 18-room hotel is also dog-friendly.

The three-storey venue has just been nominated for our sister site TeamDogs’ WeLoveDogs Award, as it searches for the UK’s best dog-friendly business.

TeamDogs user Christian Maher said: “Took my dog here for an overnight stay and all the staff were lovely with him.

“He was given dog treats on arrival and spoilt throughout his whole stay – even had his very own dog bed in the room!”

To learn more about what makes the Manchester hotspot an ideal staycation destination for pet parents, TeamDogs spoke to DogHouse team member Gaby.

She said: “Being dog friendly has always been a huge part of BrewDog and we felt it was important that this continues with the new venues and ventures too.

“DogHouse Manchester is fully dog friendly.

“They are welcome in the downstairs taproom, the upstairs taco terrace and even as overnight guests in the hotel!”

Dogs who are staying the night in one of DogHouse’s hotel rooms also get a special ‘Pooch Pack’, which includes a bed, water and food bowl, plus a can of Brewski’s craft beer-inspired dog biscuits, all free of charge.

The welcoming venue has already proved a big hit with dog owners and their canine companions, despite only opening this summer.

Gaby commented to TeamDogs : “We get plenty of dogs here!

“We usually have one or two dogs staying over each night and even more visiting us with their humans just for food and drinks.”

She added: “We definitely get people staying here due to us being so welcoming to them and their pets.

“With the rise of staycations this year especially, people have really appreciated being able to bring along their dogs and treat them to a trip away too.”

This statement is supported by the numerous positive reviews that the venue has received from dog owners on Tripadvisor.

One user commented : “The lady behind reception was so welcoming and obviously everyone working here is a dog lover so ours was fussed so much while we were here, it was so lovely, made us feel right at home.

“The dog package was amazing. Bed, bowls and dog biscuits!”

Another added : “We stayed here for my husband's birthday with our little sausage dog Stanley.

“The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful!”

A third wrote : “The manager and his team are a huge asset to the hotel and made us and our Labrador feel extremely welcome and very well looked after.”

There’s also numerous benefits for two-legged visitors, including 30 craft beers tap at the downstairs bar and unique in-room features like the ‘shower beer fridge’ and edible pick n mix selection.

Close to the buzzy Market Street and the city’s Northern Quarter, the centrally located venue is only an 11 minute walk from either Manchester Piccadilly or Victoria station.

DogHouse’s dog-friendly roof terrace will host a mulled cider festival in partnership with urban cidery Hawkes on Saturday, November 13 and Sunday, November 14.

Described by Gaby as ‘perfect for people who want to get into the spirit of the Christmas markets but without the noise and bustle’, this event will involve ‘cider schools’, DIY mulled cider kits and ‘plenty of wintery and warming mulled cider and snacks’.
