Beer gardens Dublin: 30 outdoor pubs to enjoy the sun in this summer

Summer is here and there's a sunny weekend ahead of us which means it's the perfect time to go big and celebrate with your pals.

From northside to southside, we are spoiled for choice with atmospheric open bar spaces to enjoy. Raise your glass and clink a drink to the best beer gardens in Dublin.

House, Leeson Street

This fancy bar makes you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. The beautiful beer garden is surrounded with olive and citrus trees that will take your breath away.

The Belfry

The historic Stoneybatter pub reopened in 2017 after an extensive makeover. The result is a chic interior with and a great beer garden out the back for an al fresco beverage.

The Living Room

You don't think of "beer garden" without thinking about this place. Located On Cathal Brugha Street, it's one of the best places to get a pint while watching the match.

The Bald Eagle

This Phibsoro pub renamed itself "Garth Brooks HQ" to celebrate the country singer's Croke Park gigs last year. they've also got a great beer garden out the back with plenty of space for groups.

Bonobo

Located in Smithfield, the aesthetic of the beer garden makes it the perfect place to enjoy a pizza and a pint in the sun, as is the fact that it's a dog-friendly haven.

The Bernard Shaw, Richmond Street South

This iconic graffiti covered beer garden has been a big favourite amongst locals for its incredible food and drinks. You can grab a delicious slice of pizza at the Blue Bus to go with your drinks as you chill with your friends in the sun.

The Sheds

Located in Clontarf, Connolly's has done a lot of work on their beer garden which is a great shout for anyone around the area.

Pennylane

Pennylane is part of the Panti district of Capel Street and is great for people-watching. They have a stylish courtyard with twinkling lights, great tunes and even better cocktails.

The Yacht

While we're talking about Clontarf, we can't omit The Yacht, which now has a massive beer garden serving delicious food and pints.

Wigwam

Located on Middle Abbey Street, Wigwam's buzzy outdoor terrace has retractable roof, making this the perfect destination for an outdoor drink in the middle of town.

The Bloody Stream

One of Howth's gems, The Bloody Stream has a beer garden to die for. The garden features wooden picnic style tables and has a capacity of 138 for outdoor dining.

The Strawberry Hall

This Chapelizod haunt has upgraded its beer garden since the beginning of the pandemic. Owner Declan Cummins said last year: "'Where the Strawberry Beds sweep down to Liffey, and kissed away the worries from my brow'. As famously sang by Ronnie Drew, the Strawberry Hall are ready to make it all better this summer with our beautiful new riverside beer garden."

Eden House

Across the road from Marlay Park is a beer garden that has an incredible capacity of 300 people. Their outdoor area is "inspired by the Garden of Eden" and complete with a brand new BBQ pit and Tikki Bar.

Sandyford House

A stylish beer garden with an 80 person capacity, this is a sun trap during good weather. They have also built a second outdoor area that can seat up to 35 people to deal with high levels of demand.

The Horse Show House

A bright and colourful Ballsbridge beer garden that's perfect for anyone seeking out festival vibes on a sunny day. They made some changes to the garden last year to get it ready for outdoor drinking and dining.

Pubs spokeswoman Cliodhna O'Dwyer told Dublin Live "The garden is now mostly covered with the addition of a new retractable roof so we can still comfortably serve our customers even on the days we get all four seasons in one day!"

The Cock and Bull

This is a great option for some summer pints, containing two beer gardens that can hold up to 250 people. Both Coolock gardens are modern and well kept.

The Harbourmaster

The Harbourmaster in IFSC offers great views of the city as the terrace overlooks Dublin's financial district.

Harcourt Bar and Garden

If you're looking to drink your cocktails and pints in style, this Harcourt Street stop-off is the place for you. It's fully heated and covered, so you can pay a visit in any weather.

Darkey Kelly's

One of Temple Bar's favourite pubs has a lovely outdoor area. The cosy spot has space for 40 people and has a small stage that can be used for live music.

Glenside Pub

The Newtown Little boozer has three outdoor areas for guests to enjoy, amounting to a capacity of 250 people. They have two non-smoking, heated beer gardens and an open top area for sunny days.

The Bru House

You'll end up having a fair few in this Fairview pub. Both of their two beer gardens can be fully covered in the event of bad weather, one with a retractable roof and one with a retractable awning while both gardens are heated. Paul Dooley of Bru Hospitality Group said: "We are a fun venue and our staff interactions with customers reflect that - great vibe, great tunes, great drinks and tasty casual food."

The Cherrytree

Walk-ins town or bookings, this southside beauty on Dublin's most famous roundabout will welcome all. Owner Gerry McGeough described it as "Dublin's favourite beer garden".

The Black Wolf

One of Blanchardstown's finest pubs and there's no doubt its beer garden will be flying. They have added additional seating giving their outdoor area a capacity of approximately 50 people.

The Lock Keeper

The Ashtown joint has a bright and boujee beer garden right next to the Royal Canal.

The Laurels

This 200 seater beer garden in Clondalkin has had finishing touches added to it in between lockdowns.

Downey's Pub

This Cherry Orchard favourite wins best beer garden wallpaper by a mile. The cosy garden has a capacity of 35 people and according to owner Spencer Mitton, Downey's is all about community spirit.

He told Dublin Live: "All our staff are with me 20 plus year. All of our customers are related to our staff in some way. The outside area is cosy and gets the sun all day and you can spend the day watching sports on our 50 inch screen."

Gibney's of Malahide

If you're seeking out Canary Islands vibes, on a sunny day the gorgeous Gibney's won't disappoint you. After spending a day down on Malahide beach, this is the perfect place to relax and have a few drinks.

The Bottle Tower

Take me to Churchtown to see this spacious beer garden fit for up to 90 people. There's a sun trap for good days but they also have covered areas and heaters for when the weather misbehaves.

Toners

The Baggot Street beauty has a history like no other beer garden, serving customers since 1734. The yard is stylish and bright and is a great place to grab a few drinks in the city centre.

The Paddocks

Possibly the most dreamy cocktail palace in the capital with some seriously appetising concoctions on the list.
