Beer garden blow for Glasgow as Nicola Sturgeon says they can't open yet

Beer gardens won't be opening in Scotland until at least July.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon says evidence suggests pubs and restaurants remain hot spots for the coronavirus infection.

The decision will be reviewed again on July 2, and she urged councils to work with businesses to prepare them for reopening.

The news will be a blow to the Glasgow licensed trade, who have been preparing outdoor spaces in the hope the Scottish Government would allow them to reopen this weekend.

Speaking in the Scottish Parliament this afternoon, Ms Sturgeon explained she wants more advice from experts.

She added: "Evidence is that pubs, restaurants and gyms can be hot spots for this infection."
