Bedwas Rugby club closes after customer tests positive for coronavirus

A rugby club has closed for deep cleaning after a customer tested positive for coronavirus.

Bedwas RFC said they have instigated their track and trace procedures to let other customers who were at the club on Thursday, September3, and Friday, September 4.

A statement from the club that was issued on Saturday said: "Today we have learned that there has been a positive case of COVID-19 from a Bedwas RFC customer who was present at the club this week.

"As a result, the club will be closed today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday) for sanitisation. The club will not re-open until at least Thursday 10 September in line with its normal opening times.

"We have instigated our track and trace procedure and customers who were present at the club on Thursday 3 September and yesterday (Friday) will be contacted.

"Thank you for your continued support and understanding in this ever-difficult time for the club and community."

It has been a difficult year for the rugby club after the club house was severely hit by Storm Dennis.

The club's function room, lounge, bars, cellar, changing rooms, furniture and outdoor facilities were all damaged.

It is the rugby club to have taken precautions because of coronarvirus.

Neath RFC has cancelled training for two weeks amid concerns over coronavirus.

The move follows events in Maesteg, where a number of pubs and establishments have been deep cleaned after social media claims that people who recently returned from Zante with Covid-19 symptoms had been drinking there last weekend.

In line with Welsh Government guidance, the Welsh Rugby Union have recently sanctioned touch rugby as part of fitness and skills training at all levels of the game in Wales.
