Most recent weeks have brought family films about the art of storytelling. In the latest, Adam Sandler discovers that the bedtime stories he tells his little nephew and niece come true the following day, often in unexpected ways. He harnesses this dangerous skill to help him compete with pompous Guy Pearce for the job of manager of a Los Angeles hotel owned by Richard Griffiths. It's a heavy-handed affair that wastes the talents of Jonathan Pryce, who dies early on but remains as narrator, and also - so his fans might think - of Russell Brand, who plays Sandler's best friend, a waiter suffering from a rare sleep disorder.
