Bedminster pool to re-open after £200,000 revamp

A popular south Bristol swimming pool is set to re-open in less than a month.

The community pool in Dean Lane, Bedminster, was closed in November to replace leaking pipework and upgrade the ceiling.

But Bristol City Council was forced to push back its re-opening date from December to February when contractors uncovered the pool's walls had also deteriorated.

It's now hoped residents will be able to use the 30.5m pool, which is based in a Grade II listed building, from mid-February after making £200,00 worth of improvements.

Cllr Asher Craig, deputy mayor and cabinet member for Communities, said: “The Bristol South pool is a much loved community facility with nearly 100,000 visits each year and this work was vital to ensure that it is maintained and remains fit for purpose.

“While the extra time needed for the work is understandably frustrating, these improvements were necessary to ensure the pool can still operate effectively and continue to be enjoyed by so many people.’’

The pool is managed by Everyone Active, in partnership with Bristol City Council.
