‘Bedlam’ at Dunnes Stores as last-minute Christmas shoppers cause outrageous queues

With just two days left before Christmas, chaotic scenes are being reported at shops across Ireland.

Customers have been sharing their manic experiences at packed shops online.

One store which seems to have been particularly badly hit on Thursday is Dunnes Stores in Blanchardstown, with videos and pictures showing outrageous queues extending outside the store and through the entire shopping centre.

One person wrote on Twitter: “Thought I'd be clever and get to Dunnes Blanch at 8am this morning.... It was f**kin bedlam.

“Oul ones fighting over Brussels Sprouts and queues for the tills blocking every aisle with trolley rage thrown in. I had to leave after 5 mins…”

Others reported queuing for hours.

“Let me tell you. Last minute xmas shopping in blanch is not a vibe. Hour and a half queue into dunnes.

“Be nice to retail workers lads they're gonna be flat out,” someone shared on Twitter.

Another Twitter user claimed hundreds of people were in the shop.

“Greetings from Dunnes in Blanch, where an 8am start to do the big Christmas shop seemed like a great idea for at least 500 other people too,” they said.

Others saw the funny side of the mayhem.

“My turkey has gone out of date while waiting in the till queue at Dunnes this morning,” a Twitter user joked.

Another added: “I survived the big Dunnes Christmas shop 2021”

It comes as a number of shops have altered their opening hours for the festive season.

Many have announced later than normal hours in the lead-up to December 25.

Some close for Christmas Eve and remain closed on St Stephen’s Day
