Becky Lynch thinks WWE have opportunity to 're-imagine wrestling' after WrestleMania

Becky Lynch reckons that this year's WrestleMania has given WWE an opportunity to redefine wrestling.

The Showcase of the Immortals was forced behind closed doors as the coronavirus pandemic has brought the world of sport to a halt.

And after WWE pre-recorded the entire two-day show, fans were treated to a feast of action, including Lynch's Raw Women's Championship showdown against Shayna Baszler.

And the show threw out two standout highlights in a cinematic 'Boneyard' match involving Undertaker and AJ Styles and a mind-bending 'Firefly Funhouse' match between John Cena and Bray 'The Fiend' Wyatt.

And Lynch reckons that comparing the two is like choosing between legendary artists Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh.

"Yeah! I don't know, I think it (Firefly Funhouse match) might have," Lynch told the Irish Mirror when asked about the two matches.

"Just because it was so absurd - and I love absurdity. It's tough to call.

"And look, to be honest with you it's art. They were both works of art.

"Let's not compare whether Picasso or Van Gogh was better, you know what I mean."

The Cena and Wyatt match took particular plaudits, with the sinister 'Fiend' taking veteran Cena through time to a host of eras from the industry and his own career in the 'absurd' showdown.

And Lynch cites the match as an example of the opportunity in the hands of the company to rewrite wrestling and alter how their stories are told.

Lynch said: "That's the thing though, we have this opportunity to re-imagine wrestling and we should be doing that.

"At the end of the day it's storytelling, that's the foundation of all of this and we can't get away from that.

"Whatever way is best to tell a story, and particularly in the circumstances that we now have and have to use.

"So we have to go outside the box, we have to think differently and imagine it differently and be more creative.

"It's a matter of if we're going to be daring enough to do that and take those risks, and there are going to be a lot of risks and there might be criticisms.

"But to hell with it! What do you have to lose? You might as well try."
