Beckton 'acid attack': Man has corrosive substance thrown over him at east London shopping centre

A man has been taken to hospital after a reported acid attack at an east London shopping centre.

It was reported that a corrosive substance had been used during the attack at the Mary Rose Mall in Beckton, Scotland Yard said.

Pictures circulated on social media showed fire crews and an ambulance at the scene.

Officers are hunting the suspect after the victim was found at a nearby address.

He was taken to hospital as a precaution but there were no reports of any serious injuries.

The Metropolitan Police said in a statement: "Police were called at approximately 12:15hrs on Monday, 4 February to reports of a man assaulted in Mary Rose Mall, E6.

"It was reported that a corrosive substance had been used during the assault. Officers attended but neither the victim nor the suspect was on the scene.

"The victim was subsequently traced to a nearby address and has been taken to hospital as a precaution. No reports of any serious injuries.

"Enquiries continue to trace the suspect. No arrests.

"Officers from the North East Command Unit investigate."
