Lawyers for David and Victoria Beckham are considering whether they have a case for legal action after the Sunday Mirror published claims by a beautician that she had an affair with the England football captain.
The couple believe they may have a case against both the paper and Dannielle Heath, who worked for them over the summer.
They have asked lawyers to examine the article, published at the weekend, and to investigate whether Ms Heath broke the terms of her contract with them when she sold her story to the Sunday Mirror.
The couple have denied the claims and said the matter was "in the hands of our lawyers".
"We are sick and tired of people trying to make money at the expense of our family. It is even more distressing when we are expecting our third child soon," they said in a statement.
"The allegations are completely and totally untrue, and it is in the hands of our lawyers."
The Beckhams' marriage has been under intense media scrutiny since it was alleged that the Real Madrid star had an affair with personal assistant Rebecca Loos.
Beckham dismissed the allegations, first published in the News of the World, as "ludicrous".
But the couple only launched libel proceedings after the Sunday newspaper claimed their marriage was in trouble.
