Beckham: being traded to Browns ‘one of the best things to ever happen to me’

The Cleveland Browns introduced Odell Beckham Jr. to the world on Monday. Beckham spoke to the media as part of a panel with new teammates Baker Mayfield, Jarvis Landry and Myles Garrett.

It was the first time we’ve heard Beckham speak as a member of the Browns, and he did not disappoint.

“This is going to be one of the best things to ever happen to me in my life,” stated at the end of a long answer about why he is excited to be in Cleveland and playing under coach Freddie Kitchens with all the considerable talent on hand.

Beckham mentioned the authenticity of Kitchens a couple of times as a big selling point. It’s something that clearly resonates with the star coming from New York, where the media simultaneously fluffed him up and tore him down depending on their motivation.

He doesn’t seem concerned at all about leaving a major media market for Cleveland, either,

“Yeah, but at the end of the day, I know where I am at in life. I do not need to be in New York. I do not need to be in LA. I could be in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I have created this what I call a ‘legacy.’ It never really crossed my mind like ‘I’m going to Cleveland’ and worrying about marketing or worrying about any of that. I care about football. I care about winning. I didn’t step into this game to be famous. That is just what fell into my lap.”

Welcome to Cleveland, Odell!
