A man has been charged with murdering a mother who was found dead at her home in south-east London.

David Samuel McCorkell, 54, of Beckenham Road, Penge, was arrested on Tuesday and later charged with the murder of 61-year-old Diane Dyer.

He was also charged with possession of an offensive weapon and will appear in custody on Wednesday at Bromley Magistrates' Court.

Mrs Dyer was found unresponsive at her home in Oakwood Avenue, Beckenham, on July 18.

An ambulance crew was called but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination took place on Friday and gave the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the head and face.

Friends of Mrs Dyer told the Standard she would be “hugely missed”.

Jane Frenchum said: “We have been friends for a long, long time. She was a big part of our family, and she was a very loving woman.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 020 8721 4054 or 101 quoting CAD 9363/18JUL, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111 or online.
