Because Trump is Trump, he even steals the FIFA Club World Cup glory for himself

Going into the final of the FIFA Club World Cup, which has been hosted across the U.S. for the past month, soccer fans had one favorite in mind: PSG. Somehow, they got battered by the London team Chelsea FC — yet despite the twists and turns, Trump still managed to center himself and make the entire post-game celebration about, well, himself.

If you didn’t even know the FIFA tournament was happening, we don’t blame you. For some reason, Trump decided that stadiums were the perfect place for ICE crackdowns, which at one point caused people to shun the games altogether. But as the tournament went on and athletes did what they do best, the sport eventually spoke for itself, with the final boasting a halftime show featuring pop stars like Doja Cat and Tems. The show was set for an incredible climax.

President Trump was always scheduled to attend. The FIFA president has been trying his best to get Trump to participate as much as possible — if he has time for all those golf games, he surely has time to “support” FIFA to help boost interest for the 2026 World Cup coming stateside. But when Chelsea won the tournament and Trump walked the trophy down to the players, he simply decided to stay with the team.

CNN reports that when the player of the tournament, Cole Palmer, was asked about Trump joining in on their celebration, he was just as bewildered as you’d expect, saying, “I knew he was going to be here, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand when we lifted the trophy, so I was a bit confused.”

In true Trump administration fashion, they have now posted the iconic celebration photo — with Trump right in the middle, of course. To make matters even funnier, President Trump took his gatecrashing to a new level when the FIFA president actually presented him with a winner’s medal. The Daily Mail has published images of him receiving the medal. He probably heard “winner’s medal” and decided he was going to get one, too, no questions asked.

It wasn’t just Trump at the match; other members of his administration, like Kristi Noem and Sean Duffy, were also spotted enjoying the game. In Trump’s immediate circle were Rupert Murdoch, the FIFA president, Melania Trump, and Tom Brady. Much like his appearance at the Kennedy Center earlier this year, his presence was met with a mix of boos and cheers. Maybe that’s why he wanted to join the Chelsea celebration — at least the cheering was more unified there.

It’s clear that winning two presidential terms isn’t enough for Trump; he needs more trophies, Qatari jets, or winner’s medals for a sport he’s probably never played. But if gatecrashing soccer matches for shiny medals helps scratch his Nobel Peace Prize itch and keeps him too busy to disastrously meddle in another conflict for five minutes, we’ll take it.

Congratulations to Chelsea FC for winning the Club World Cup… and, sure, congratulations to Trump, too, for being around.
