Beavis and Butt-Head to be rebooted for two seasons set in modern day

Beavis and Butt-Head is coming back with two new seasons set in the present day.

The adult animation, which originally ran from 1992 to 1997, is being rebooted by Comedy Central for the new seasons and a special.

Series creator Mike Judge will return to write, produce and provide voices for the series, which will see the titular slacker teenagers enter “a whole new Gen Z world” that will appeal to both old fans of the show and first-time viewers.

“It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again,” Judge said about the show’s return.

ViacomCBS’s Chris McCarthy said: “We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central.

“Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”

It’s unclear whether the characters will still be teenagers in the new episodes or will have grown up with their audience.

Beavis and Butt-Head originally ran for seven seasons and spawned a 1996 feature film, Beavis and Butt-Head Do America, as well as an initial series revival in 2011.
