The car park at a Welsh beauty spot has been closed following an influx of people travelling to the site "without reasonable excuse".
Newport City Council announced the temporary closure of the car park at Fourteen Locks Canal Centre in Rogerstone on Thursday.
A spokesperson said the decision came following discussion with Gwent Police regarding the number of incidents of people making visits to the site from outside the local area.
Under the Welsh Government's tier four lockdown rules, people are required to stay at home except for limited purposes. Exercise is permitted, but people are not allowed to drive to a destination to take part in exercise.
Concerns have previously been raised about the car park at Fourteen Locks after numerous cars were photographed parked at the site in recent weeks.
A Newport City Council spokesperson said: "Following discussions with Gwent Police, the council has temporarily closed the car park at Fourteen Locks.
"This is due to a number of incidents of people making visits to the site from outside of the local area without a reasonable excuse.
"Further updates will be issued when the car park reopens.
"Wales is still under Tier 4 lockdown, and residents are asked to stay at home unless necessary."
The Fourteen Locks walking route has a visitor centre and cafe, although its visitor centre is currently closed due to the coronavirus restrictions, while its cafe is open on reduced hours for takeaway at weekends.
Gwent Police have previously issued warnings to the public regarding adherence to coronavirus regulations after multiple cars were seen parked at Fourteen Locks.
Officers said they will take enforcement actions against those who continue to "go against the rules".
A Gwent Police spokesperson said: "The current alert level requires everyone to think about their travel plans, stay at home and to only leave home when it is essential.
“Alongside our partners, we’re asking the people of Gwent to do the right thing for their communities.
“Officers will be continuing to engage and encourage individuals to follow the guidance. For those that continue to go against the rules, we’ll take enforcement action."
