A beauty pageant contestant has revealed the horrific injuries she suffered after an attack by a stranger as she made her way home from a competition.
Emma Clark says she was left with a broken nose after she claims the man assaulted her as she made her way home from the North East Calender Girls final in Newcastle city centre on Sunday night.
The 27-year-old, from South Shields, said she had left the glamour contest with relatives including her mum, when a mystery man approached them before hurling verbal abuse and attacking her in front of her horrified family.
She told Chronicle Live : "I'd had a brilliant night and the competition was fantastic, it had really helped improve my confidence as I suffer with mental health issues.
"This has knocked me right back. I now feel ugly and now look like something from the Muppets because of my nose.
"I'm just devastated and feel absolutely awful."
Emma claims she has now been told she will need an operation on her broken nose.
"I can't sneeze without the pain going right through to the back of my eyes," she continued.
"I went to see about it at the hospital and they said it is a canny bad break.
"They can operate but can't do anything for the next five days.
"In the meantime, the pain is really bad. I've had a couple of codeine but I am in agony."
Northumbria Police said a 55-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of assault. He has been released under investigation.
