Disney’s hit blockbuster Beauty and the Beast has inspired a forthcoming series, but there will be a bit of a wait until it hits TV screens.
Executives at the entertainment company have ordered production of a prequel series, with shooting expected to get underway on the eight episodes in spring 2022.
It means fans of Beauty and the Beast will get to see a major storyline that is set before the 2017 adaptation.
So, what do we know about the prequel so far, who is in it, and when will it air on Disney Plus?
What is the Beauty and the Beast Disney+ prequel?
The Beauty and the Beast prequel is set before the main Beauty and the Beast movie.
It takes place in the same magical kingdom, but instead will focus on three main characters. Gaston and LeFou/Louie, alongside a new character, Louie’s stepsister, Tilly (Briana Middleton).
The main storyline centres on the trio, who set off on a journey when they learn of one of Tilly's secrets.
But the gang soon find there are many secrets of the kingdom, leading them on a dangerous and perilous travel through time.
Who is in the Beauty and the Beast prequel cast?
One of the main characters, Gaston, will be played by Luke Evans. He’s reprising his role after originally playing the character in the main movie.
Luke has appeared in a number of TV shows, and most recently appeared in ITV’s The Pembrokeshire Murders.
Prior to this, in 2014, he starred as Dracula in the film, Dracula Untold.
Another of the main characters, LeFou, will be played by Josh Gad. He, too, is reprising his role after originally playing the character in the main movie.
Josh has appeared in movies including The Rocker and The Wedding Ringer.
Briana Middleton plays new character, Tilly and will work alongside Josh and Luke as filming commences.
Briana is also due to appear in the upcoming film, the Tender Bar, which is set to be released by Amazon Studios.
When will the Beauty and the Beast prequel be on Disney+?
The Beauty and the Beast prequel isn’t set for filming until spring 2022, so it will be some time after that when it will be available on Disney Plus for Disney Plus subscribers.
In other words, there is no release date set yet, but keep an eye on the listings.
