'Beautiful' young mum died unintentionally after taking lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol

A young mum who died after unintentionally taking a lethal cocktail of drugs and alcohol was a 'beautiful person', her family and friends have said.

Rebecca Marie Walsh, 28, died on March 28 after taking drugs with friends at her home in Kelverlow Street, Oldham, an inquest heard.

She was found unresponsive in her bedroom at 1.36pm before paramedics rushed her to the Royal Oldham Hospital.

Medics were unable to revive her and she was pronounced dead at 2.30pm.

Rebecca - a mother of two children - had been the victim of domestic abuse and struggled with anxiety and depression while battling drug and alcohol dependency, assistant coroner Michael Salt heard.

Following the inquest, her sister Linsday Walsh, 29, and long-time friend Laura Ali, 28, paid tribute to her in a touching joint statement.

"Becky was a kind and amazing sister, mother and friend," they said.

"You couldn't ask for anyone better. She was caring and loving - everything you could ask for in one person.

"She had a lot of stuff that went on in her life, but it never stopped her from being the person she was."

Detective Inspector Nicholas Helm said there was no suggestion of foul play in Rebecca's death and that it resulted from her taking a combination of illicit and controlled drugs.

He described the incident as an 'unintended self-inflicted act'.

She had taken the drugs with her partner and his friend shortly before her death, the inquest heard.

Home office forensic pathologist Dr Jamie Robinson said the cause of Rebecca's death was a combination of an anti-depressant, methadone, cocaine and alcohol.

Mr Salt recorded a conclusion of drug and alcohol-related death.

He said: "From quite an early age Rebecca had difficulties with alcohol and was a victim of domestic violence.

"In her later years, she took to self-medicating.

"Cocaine is a dangerous drug which should not be underestimated when combined with other prescribed drugs and it is that cocktail which led to her death."
