The characterful detached property is located in around 1.6 acres and features an open outlook over the River Ugie as well as extensive garden grounds and a double garage.

Spacious and and attractive in its own right, the real Brucey bonus is that the family home comes with a striking piece of architecture built by the Cheynne family way back in the 12th century.

Previously occupied by members of Clan Keith, the castle remains are steeped in history and charm and offer a unique and interesting opportunity to own a piece of Scottish history.

It changed hands many times over the centuries and perhaps most interestingly, William Burnes, the father of Scotland's National Bard Robert Burns, was born at a nearby farm and reportedly trained at as a gardener at the castle before moving to Ayrshire.

An agent for Galbraith's said: "The property includes the remains of the historic Inverugie Castle, which lies adjacent to the Castle Coach House.

"The house offers the comforts of a 20th century family home alongside the most fascinating 17th century history."

The house itself includes a large entrance hall, lounge and sitting room on open plan and separate dining room overlooking the garden.

The modern kitchen has a large window with views of the River Ugie, while upstairs there is a large master bedroom, with comes with a dressing room and ensuite shower room.

There is also three further bedrooms and a home office and separate bathroom.

Sadly, owning the castle may only be for aesthetic purposes as the agents believe there is no prospect of development.
