Beautiful, odd Scottish soccer highlight video is done in the style of a Wes Anderson film

I spend an inordinate amount of my time watching game recaps of soccer matches. There are too many games played all over the world, and with a job and family, there’s only so many 90-minute chunks of time I can carve out to watch the beautiful game.

So instead I go on YouTube and Twitter and watch 4-minute long highlight films, a kind of soccer methadone to tie me over. They do get monotonous, though. Some have music, but most just pick up whatever the announcer’s talking about at the moment of the highlight, then give you the standard TV view of the game, and that is that.

But look at what they’ve done in Scotland:

That’s right, a highlight film done of Scottish second division match Arbroath vs. Airdrieonians in the style of Wes Anderson. (Or, if you want to be a snob, in the style of one of the old directors he lovingly mimics.)

How interesting. How bizarre.

It’s from A View from the Terrace, a lovely series and podcast you should check out.

Do you see the goals? Not really. Do you see much of the action? Not at all. But it’s beautiful, and the music is lovely, and it’s Scottish second division soccer … how much action are you really missing?
