'Beautiful' mum died days after being told she had 'muscle strain'

Loving tributes have been paid to a "beautiful" and "lovely" lady who died just days after a devastating diagnosis.

Jackie Baker, from Norris Green, was rushed to hospital on December 5 after she began struggling to breathe, but shortly after was diagnosed with pneumonia and later terminal cancer.

The 60-year-old sadly died on December 20 at Aintree Hospital with her family by her bedside.

Tributes have since come pouring in with messages of love and support for the family.

One ECHO reader said: "Sending the family and friends of this lovely lady, all my love, so sad. May she rest in eternal peace."

Another added: "Knew Jackie for years from working in Sayers to a barmaid in Royal Oak, boss girl, RIP Jackie."

A third wrote: "Beautiful lady so awfully sad. God bless."

Another said: "RIP Jackie, condolences to family and friends."

Jackie's son, James, said his mum had been to the doctors six weeks earlier with chest pains, which she was told were down to muscle strain.

Despite improvements following her pneumonia diagnosis, James said she "took a turn for the worse" and further tests were undertaken.

However, on the Friday, she was diagnosed with lung cancer and sadly died just three days later "that's how rapid it was".

Now, James is hoping to raise awareness of lung cancer and the importance of getting checked. He will be running the Aintree half marathon on his mum's birthday, February 13, with all money raised going to the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation.

He said: "I think the main reason for wanting to do it is wanting to spread knowledge that you should keep an eye on yourself, especially with the covid situation, it's hard to get a doctors appointment with all the [backdated appointments] and that.

"I think that's the main reason, because three days is nothing is it? In the timeline of things, to find out you've got cancer to then die."

ECHO reader Linsey Kearney commended James, added: "Amazing what you are doing James, bet your mum would be so proud. You are in my thoughts mate."

Marg Welsh said: "RIP thinking of her family."

Concerns have been raised over delayed cancer diagnosis, as Ashleigh Richards said: "My mum was also mis-diagnosed by GP. She had Myeloma (cancer), she had just 22 weeks from diagnosis and also died at Aintree hospital in February 2021."

Jackie leaves behind her husband John, 66, sons Neil, 38, and James, 34, and four grandchildren.
