'Beautiful' man, 25, killed in crash was 'loved by everyone who met him'

A heartbroken mum has shared a poem she wrote two years on from her son's tragic death after a car crash.

Paul Hayes, 25, died after a Ford Fiesta car he was a passenger in collided with a Ford S-Max private hire taxi on Princess Drive, West Derby, at 1am on June 29, 2019.

In the car with Paul was his then 19-year-old girlfriend Lauren Hay and driver Alex Lloyd.

Witnesses said the huge impact left the car flipped on its side, the taxi rolling in the road and onlookers said Paul was found underneath the Fiesta.

In a court case following the accident, Lloyd was jailed for seven years and four months and was disqualified from driving for five years.

Two years on from her son's death and to mark National Road Victim Month, Sharon Hayes, the heartbroken mother of Paul said she is 'lost without her son' and wrote a poem.

The poem reads: "They were young and invincible, at least that's what they thought, living life to full until one day they were caught.

"Not by the young policeman who wished he had that night, but by the massive light that chose them by fright.

"Three young people in the car on that fateful night, their lives will never be the same. Events can never be put right.

"He was too drunk to drive at the age of 25, forever he will wish it has him that died.

"She was a living day angel with a bright future ahead, only 19 years old fighting for her life in a hospital bed.

"He was happy in life that God choose his time, he gained his wings to become the shine in everyone's lives.

"The milky bar kid is among the magic stars, in his new life he's made a home in everyone's hearts.

"Their lives are changed forever because of one stupid mistake, they will live always knowing no more breathes he will take.

"And the loved ones that are affected by this sad and troubled day, I'll no longer have the opportunity to say the things they wanted to say.

"So next time you venture out think before you leave home, the life you may be risking may not just be your own."

In a statement, after Mr Hayes' death, his devastated family said: "Paul Dylan Hayes was 25 years old.

"He was loved by everyone who met him. Paul was a support worker for people with mental health conditions.

"He made a great impact on all the people he supported and his colleagues, and was a great friend.

"He was a 'Laid-back Larry.'

"Nothing ever fazed him, and he lived his life to the fullest. He was a beloved Liverpool fan."
