Beautiful lantern festival returning in time for Christmas near Liverpool

Europe’s largest lantern and light festival is returning to Heaton Park this Christmas, just under an hour’s drive from Liverpool.

Returning in November, Lightopia will feature interactive and immersive lights, lanterns, installations and incredible lasers with water-screen multimedia shows.

Last year, thousands of fans descended on Heaton Park to witness the immersive experience of light along the hidden lantern trail.

The 2019 festival featured a path through Heaton Park which was transformed into a safari, with glowing lions, tigers, zebras and a moving rhino.

Another path transformed into a whimsical woodland walk lit up by luminous dandelions and mushrooms, with colourful, dancing lasers speckling the trees.

There were also light-up swings for visitors to play on, acrobatic performances to watch and a mesmerising water show with lasers and lighting to see.

According to the Lightopia Festival website, this year’s edition will be the biggest ever festival and will feature more surprises than ever.

Lightopia will open to the public from November 20, 2020 to January 3, 2021 , at Heaton Park, Manchester.
