'Beautiful and devoted' young mum killed in crash

Tributes have been paid to a “beautiful and devoted mum” who was killed in a crash in west Wales.

Sophie Louise Evans, who was 27 and from Cilgerran, died following a collision on the A484 between Cardigan and Llechryd in Ceredigion on Saturday night.

Her family have issued a tribute to someone they say “lit up the room wherever she went”.

“It is with great sadness that we announce our beautiful daughter Sophie has been tragically taken from us,” her family said.

"Sophie was a devoted mum to her beautiful son, a cherished daughter, much loved sister and auntie and will be deeply missed by everyone. Anyone who knew Sophie knows that she was a larger-than-life character who lit up the room wherever she went with her craziness. She was the life and soul of the party and an inspiration to so many people.

“Thank you to everyone who has reached out with messages of condolences and support. We are absolutely heartbroken, and it has meant so much to the whole family. We would now like time to grieve and would ask to be given privacy in which to do so.”

Police are continuing to investigate Saturday night’s fatal crash, which happened at around 10.50pm. A 23-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and has since been released on bail pending further enquiries, police have confirmed.

A spokeswoman for Dyfed-Powys Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses to the collision or who may have dashcam or doorbell footage. Contact Dyfed-Powys Police on 101 quoting reference number DP-20220129-432 if you have information.”

Ms Evans’ family are being supported by specialist liaison officers.

An inquest into the death has been opened by HM Coroner for Ceredigion and adjourned to a later date.
