Beautiful 18th century Gower pub with one of Wales' best beer gardens goes on sale

A pub built in the 18th century has gone up for sale - and if you've got a cool £600,000 lying around in the bank, it could be yours. The Dolphin Inn is currently available for the six-figure sum after being run by the same family for 53 years. It can be found in the picturesque coastal location of Llanrhidian in the Gower, and is full of original features.

Staff from the pub announced on Facebook that it would remain closed permanently, and thanked customers for their support. It had closed in 2018, but then opened again under new owners before the coronavirus pandemic hit. Campaign group Swansea Camra began monitoring the situation last summer to prepare to save the pub if a change of use was proposed. You can read more about that by clicking here.

It is now being marketed by Fine & Country, which describes acquiring the pub as a "once in a lifetime opportunity". Outside, it boasts stunning views overlooking the medieval 13th century St Rhidian and St Illtyd’s church and Loughor Estuary in the distance. It currently has a bar area, living accommodation and an old stable, but its future could look quite different, as it has full approved planning to create four en-suite bed and breakfast rooms, two camping pods to the rear and a coffee shop with takeaway service in addition.

It has been visited by punters since 1785, and it is one of the oldest pubs in Gower. Inside there is ample room for an array of seating, a bar area, and a log burner creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. From here you have access to the coffee shop, female toilet, and a doorway to the rear leading you to the idyllic beer garden and male toilet. Behind the bar you also have a kitchen area, access out to the cellar with ample space for storage. There is a paved patio beer garden and a large laid to lawn beer garden with playground creating a family friendly environment.

The living accommodation is found in a cottage which has its own private entrance which can be accessed through the beer garden or via a pedestrian gate leading from the driveway. Step through the front door and you will be welcomed into an open-plan kitchen/living/dining area housing all the kitchen facilities you might need and a cosy living/dining area. There is a stairway leading you to a double bedroom with impressive estuary views and an en-suite fully furnished with a walk-in shower, WC, and wash basin.
