Beautiful £1.75m hillside house with access to 'hidden gem' beach up for sale

A house praised as “outstanding” which offers incredible views of a golf club as well as a nearby sandy beach is on the market for the first time in a generation.

Known as Glaslyn, the Welsh stone house has only been sold twice since its original construction and has not been available for more than 40 years.

From its hillside position it offers panoramic views of the sea, beach and golf club, the property also has its own gardens and grounds covering 2.24 acres across the estate.

Would-be buyers will also have direct access to the National Trust-owned Samson's beach, which is regarded as a hidden gem in the area.

It is available for £1,750,000, NorthWalesLive reported.

Its listing reads: “Glaslyn was originally built by the Chivers family, who were well known within Porthmadog and the wider locality, for a member of the family to reside in.

“The exquisite cliffside south-facing gardens were reputedly designed and landscaped by the gardeners at Bodnant and remain in their original landscaped format with slate terracing, al fresco seating and dining areas, lawns and a plethora of specimen trees and plants.

“In 1952, the property was sold to Miss Smith who was the retired pianist to Dame Gracie Fields and played her piano in the music room within Glaslyn.

“The present owners purchased the property from the estate of the late Miss Smith in 1980 when a sympathetic and comprehensive refurbishment was undertaken.

“Since then, Glaslyn has been a well-loved and very special second home for three generations of the same family for over forty years.

“Directly overlooking the twelfth tee of Porthmadog Golf Club, (a coastal golf club founded in 1905 and designed by James Braid) the sale of Glaslyn offers a new purchaser the unique opportunity to own and enjoy a sublime and private Welsh coastal house of immense poise and character with staggering views and an oasis of gardens and grounds that lead directly to Samson's Bay, National Trust beach.”

Buyers would also get excellent views of the nearby golf course (Strutt & Parker, Shrewsbury / rightmove)

Within the house, would-be buyers will find four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room, kitchen, utility room, music room and a separate WC.

Outside is an additional store room, the original teak greenhouse and an al fresco living space with an in-built barbeque.

The listing continues: “The current owners have continued to maintain Glaslyn to a high standard and have replaced many of the windows with wooden double-glazed units.

“The first-floor shower room was installed in 2021 and the kitchen has been relocated and refitted with painted French oak units under granite work surfaces.”
