Beautician who battled coronavirus signs up for gruelling TV challenge to win £100,000

A beautician who filmed herself gasping for breath while fighting for her life is celebrating being given a second chance by competing to win £100,000 on a reality TV show.

When Tara Jane Langston contracted coronavirus in March she thought her days were numbered and even said goodbye to her loved ones and a video of her struggling for breath in intensive care went viral.

But, after going to hell and back, the mum-of-two says she’s determined to grab life with both hands.

So now Tara, 39, from Hillingdon, West London, has signed up to Channel 4’s big new reality series, The Bridge.

The series, which starts tomorrow, follows 12 Brits stranded in the remote Welsh countryside where bosses have left the life-changing haul of cash on an island in the middle of a lake.

The team has 20 days to build a bridge with their bare hands in order to reach the money but in a final twist only one of them will walk away with it.

When talking with husband, Richard, 34, about joining the show Tara said: “‘I don’t know why these things are coming my way, but I just need to embrace it’.

“He said, ‘We all thought you were going to die, so you just need to embrace life and take every opportunity that comes your way’.”

Despite being a fitness fanatic Tara was taken by ambulance to hospital after being struck down.

“There was a moment when I thought I wasn’t going to make it,” she admits. “I thought I wasn’t going to see my daughters grow up or get married. It was incredibly scary.”

“I’m one of the lucky ones I’ve been in a situation where I almost saw the end and I have another chance.

“Tomorrow isn’t guaranteed, you never know what’s going to happen.”

The Bridge launches on Channel 4 tomorrow night at 9pm.
