Beatles reunion: Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr perform together in LA

In a surprise reunion on the last night of his US tour, Paul McCartney was joined by the only other surviving Beatles member, Ringo Starr, to perform two of the band’s hits.

“We’ve got a surprise for us, a surprise for you, a surprise for everyone,” McCartney announced to fans at the Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles on Saturday, the final night of his Freshen Up tour.

“Ladies and gentlemen, the one and only, Ringo Starr,” he added, before the last two surviving members of the band went on to perform in a rare joint appearance.

“Ready to rock?” asked McCartney, as Starr got behind a drum kit for the classics “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “Helter Skelter”.

“It’s been a thrill for me and I’ve had a lovely night. It’s a great show and I love you, man,” Starr told McCartney, before throwing his drumsticks into the crowd and leaving the stage.

McCartney said: “I love you – peace and love, Ringo, forever.”

As well as the reunion with Starr, McCartney surprised the audience with another special guest, Eagles guitarist Joe Walsh, who is also Starr’s brother-in-law, and who joined the Beatles legend on stage to play “The End”.
