Beating Killie would be progress for Hamilton Accies, says boss Stuart Taylor

Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor has told his side to build on their three-match unbeaten run by finally toppling managerless Kilmarnock on Boxing Day.

Accies pulled off another shock result by beating Inverness Caledonian Thistle last weekend, adding to a 1-1 draw at Ayr United and a 1-0 win over Dunfermline Athletic.

Sunday's clash with Killie at New Douglas Park will be the fourth of this season having lost out 3-2 in the SPFL Trust Trophy quarter-final, 2-1 at Rugby Park in October, and 2-0 at home back in August.

Taylor says he's getting closer to a win against a club that is looking for their fourth manager in two-and-a-half years, having sacked Tommy Wright last weekend, with head of football operations James Fowler in temporary charge, and wants to make sure of three precious points.

He said: "It's a good run and we're happy with that, so it's continuing to do what we have been doing.

"The lads are playing really well just now and deservedly had a good result at the weekend.

"Even the week before at the Ayr United game, as disappointed as we were, that shows the level of expectation and desire of what we're expecting from ourselves, now.

"The response was good after losing the goal at Ayr United, but it wasn't the result we were looking for, and the game before that we were really happy with the way everything went.

"We'll keep building on it and go into the game on Sunday confident, and hoping to get the right result.

"You build on every performance, and that's one thing we've always tried to say.

"Even after a result that we didn't deserve or didn't want, it's about how can we get better from that. How can we improve, and what can we learn from it; what can we take into the next day's training, what can we take into the week's training, and what can we take into the following game?

"That's the way we work, that's our mentality now. There's going to be mistakes made, but it's how you deal with those mistakes, how you move on from those mistakes, and how you put it right - it's about doing the basics really well.

"That's all we're looking at, and that's what we'll always stick by."

Taylor says Fowler will be working hard at Killie to get the right manager in place, but says their focus is entirely on three points.

He said: "It's going to be a tough game because they've got a really good side, there are good players there, like everybody in that pack they're all chasing to try and get that top spot as quickly as they can.

"But we've just got to look after our game and make sure that we play as well as what we have done in games previously against them, if not do better - we're always trying to improve.

"But this time we've got to make sure we get the result we're looking for.

"In the last two games against Killie we've done really well in them, it's really bitterly disappointing to have lost the quarter-final game in the manner that we did do, and we want to go and put things right."
