Beating Dunfermline can kick-start Hamilton Accies' season, says midfielder

Lewis Spence hopes Hamilton can grab a win at Dunfermline on Saturday that kick-starts their season and sends them up the Championship table.

The midfielder admits it hasn’t been a good start to the season for either Accies or the Pars, going into the game in ninth and 10th place, respectively.

Accies go into the game on the back of a 2-0 home defeat against Ayr United on Saturday, and Spence reckons a run of wins would help enormously.

Spence, 25, said: “We just want to win every game, we don’t see ourselves down at that bottom end of the table.

“Our main focus on Saturday is just to go and get three points, and try and kick-start our season a wee bit.

“There’s a big game after that, with Inverness coming to us, and they’ve had a good start, so I think that will put us in good stead if we can get three points on Saturday.

“I think that’s what we’re kind of needing at the moment.

“We got a good result against Queen of the South, then Hearts ‘B’, we got the win there, and I think you need to go on a wee run in this league.

“If we can get that three points on Saturday it will hopefully kick-start our season a little bit.

“There’s obviously a tough game after that against Inverness – they’re all tough games – but I think Saturday’s is quite a big one as well because of where we are at this moment in time in the league.”

Former Dunfermline, Dundee, Ross County and Scunthorpe United star Spence added: “I’m looking forward to it, I’m confident as always.

“Obviously it hasn’t been a great start from both us and Dunfermline, so it’s going to be a tasty game.

“I think both teams are probably desperate to get three points on the table.

“We’re going into it with confidence; I know the result wasn’t great at the weekend, but I think the performance was really good.

“There were a lot of good things in there, we just maybe lacked that cutting edge.

“Fair play to Ayr, they got two goals, but we’re still confident in ourselves of going to Dunfermline and getting three points.

“A lot of the games this season we’ve been a goal down and chasing games.

“We’ve been chasing the game a lot, which doesn’t always help.

“When we were on top on Saturday, I think if we had got that first goal it definitely would have made us more confident, and Ayr would have had to come out a bit more.”
