Beat the Street game in Rutherglen enters final week

The popular Beat the Street game is into its final week in Rutherglen and Cambuslang - and organisers want locals to celebrate.

To make things interesting for the final seven days, each Beat Box will be giving out double points until the end of the game, while the week has a Go Celebrate theme to encourage players to make one final push.

The game will come to an end at 7pm on October 27 when the leaderboard will then be taken down and the winners announced shortly after the competition.

More than 8450 people have signed up and have together walked, cycled, wheeled, run and scooted an incredible 102,000 miles so far in the competition since it launched in Rutherglen.

Currently, Burnside Primary School leads the total points leaderboard and Grow 73 leads the average points leaderboard.

The top teams on each leaderboard stand to win hundreds of pounds in vouchers for sports equipment or books, plus Kilbryde Hospice could earn a donation of £500 if players meet an active travel mileage target.

To mark the last week in the game, there are lots of events with bonus points available to help propel teams up the leaderboards.

On Thursday, October 21, there’s a free Ability Walking Group in Rutherglen from 7pm to 8pm plus a free five-mile social ride around Burnside from 6pm to 7pm starting at Cafe Gelato.

On Friday, October 22, from 9.30am to 10.30am, there’s a Cambuslang Health Walk meeting at Morrisons car park in Cambuslang.

Finally, look out for the spooky Beat Boxes around the area this weekend, as these Halloween themed Beat Boxes will be giving out triple points.

Councillor John Ross, the Leader of South Lanarkshire Council, said: “It's time to go celebrate! Over the past five weeks, you have joined thousands of local people to walk, cycle and scoot for Beat the Street!

"With only one week left, make sure you’re out visiting as many Beat Boxes as possible and don't miss the bonus points bonanza this week!

"We welcome your feedback on the game and will be sending out a survey over the next few weeks to find out how the game has helped local residents."

More information, including the winning teams, will be available here or on @BTSCamGlen on social media.
