Beat the Chasers sees contestant take £90,000 gamble in tense first look

Fans of beloved quiz show The Chase know it’s difficult enough to outrun just even one Chaser, with many teams having to walk away empty-handed having unfortunately been caught.

But ITV are really upping the ante with new spin-off show Beat the Chasers, which sees just one contestant go up against all five of the quizzing champions.

The prime-time quiz show sees one hopeful answer five multiple choice questions to bank up to £5000, but they can only keep going until they give an incorrect answer. If they get the first question wrong, they leave with nothing.

Once they’ve put some money in the kitty, contestants are then given the choice to face a number of Chasers – from just two to the full team of five.

The more Chasers they face, the more our hopefuls win – but they risk TV’s toughest quiz team forcing them to run out of time.

As always, Bradley Walsh is at the helm of the show, with Mark ‘The Beast’ Labbett, Shaun ‘The Dark Destroyer’ Wallace, Anne ‘The Governess’ Hegerty, Paul ‘The Sinnerman’ Sinha and Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan all up for the ultimate challenge.

Our first look sees one contestant tempted by a £90,000 offer – but only if he faces all five Chasers at once.

Deciding on the higher offer, our plucky hopeful tells Bradley: “Let’s do it. You’re only here once.”

While the audience applaud his bravery, the Chasers are less enthusiastic, with Hegerty muttering: “Well, he’s toast.”

Viewers may recognise some other familiar faces on the programme, as the show also invites back former contestants.

Speaking about the returning contestants, Jenny ‘The Vixen’ Ryan told What’s on TV: “It might be a matter of pride. They might want revenge on a certain one of us – or it might be another attempt to take some money from us!”

Beat the Chasers starts Monday April 27 at 9pm on ITV
