PANCHKULA: The police are planning to revive the beat box system in each market of the city, with two policemen on each beat box. Apart from this, a public-police coordination committee will be formed for each police station to discuss public issues. Market welfare association members have been requested to install CCTV cameras and instructions have been issued to depute a security guard at all ATM machines in the district.
A meeting in this regard was chaired by Haryana Assembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta and commissioner of police Saurabh Singh. Deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Mohit Handa and members of the Jewellers and Market Association also attended the meeting.
Gupta asked CP Saurabh Singh to revive the beat box system soon. A roster of police personnel on duty at the beat box will be prepared. Gupta said, “People do not like to go to the police station but will feel free to provide information to beat box officials.”
Besides, a public-police coordination committee, including a local councillor, SHO, members of the resident welfare association and market welfare association will be formed in Panchkula district. Later, the committees will be made police station-wise and regular meetings will be conducted to discuss issues faced by residents.
Gupta asked the CP to take applications from jewellers who require arm licenses for safety reasons. He called for simplification of the process for businessmen. A letter will be written to all banks asking for appointment of guards at all ATM machines.
Listening to the issues raised by Jeweller Association president Deep Krishan Chauhan, the police commissioner asked businessmen to install high-end CCTV cameras at the entry and exit points of market areas. The cameras which have already been installed are to be maintained regularly.
Gupta also asked the police commissioner about the status of the Sector 8 robbery attempt and was assured that the accused would be nabbed soon.
