Beastie Boys album 'delayed indefinitely' ... but follow-up is on schedule

Beastie Boys have further delayed the release of their album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 – although in unexpected news, they are pressing ahead with Part 2.

The veteran hip-hop outfit had originally planned to issue their eighth studio album in September last year but the release was delayed while band-member Adam "MCA" Yauch received treatment for cancer of the salivary gland and lymph node.

Now, the band have revealed their revised plans on Beastieboys.com. An otherwise-blank homepage simply reads: "Although we regret to inform you that Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 will continue to be delayed indefinitely, Hot Sauce Committee Part 2 will be released as originally planned in the spring of 2011."

While there has been no more information about the reasons for the revised release, Yauch previously stated that the two records would have markedly different flavours. He told Drowned in Sound: "Part 2 is pretty much done. Part 1 had too many songs, so we recorded some more ... which sounds bizarre but it actually worked out because it made it clear to us which songs were going to be on [the first record]. Then we had this whole other album of songs."

Prior to Yauch's comments, Beastie Boys had released two teaser clips from the album, Lee Majors Come Again and B-Boys in the Cut. The former track and another song, Here's a Little Somethin' for Ya, can both be heard on the Activision game DJ Hero.

Yauch said of the new material: "It's a combination of playing and sampling ... some pretty obscure records. There are a lot of songs on the record and there are a lot of short songs and they kind of all run into each other."
